The storage capacity of the DS1010+ is easily be expanded by the DX510. The DX510 securely connects to the DS1010+ via an eSATA cable of specially-designed connectors on both ends to ensure maximum throughput. The DX510 can directly expand the existing storage on the DS1010+ to a maximum 20 TB capacity. When expanding a RAID 5 volume on the DS1010+ with DX510, a maximum 16 TB volume is limited due to the nature of EXT3 file system. |

A web-based backup wizard is provided for backing up data in the DS1010+ to another DS1010+ or any rsync server via an encrypted transmission, or to an external hard drive via USB or eSATA connection. |

S.M.A.R.T., or Self-Monitoring Analysis and Reporting Technology, is a monitoring system for computer hard drives to examine and report on various attributes to alert the user of possible disk failures. Users will be able to inspect the disk information, disk S.M.A.R.T. information, and perform S.M.A.R.T. tests on the disks installed from within the DSM 2.3 Management interface. |
