Most of us will not be bothered about the settings in browser, which helps in temporarily storing Internet downloaded content for viewing (some might know it as cache). But, if improperly set, it might cause your browsing speed to slowdown or just simply crashes your browser with errors.
|
|
|
With the most current browser in the market, the default setting is good enough for normal use. But to be certain, a quick check on the configuration can save you some trouble. Below show how to go into the settings for some well-known browser in the market currently.

| Internet Explorer 6 |
|
|
By default the settings for Temporary Internet files are set to 10% of your local C drive (if you installed your Windows to that drive). On how to go into the settings, please follow the instruction below,
|
- Start Internet Explorer if it is not started yet.
- Click on Tools in the menu and then Options to open the Internet Options window.
- Under the General tap, click on the Settings button inside the Temporary Internet Files section.
- From the Temporary Internet files folder section, you could either drag the slider under Amount of disk space to use: or just change the value found next to the slider to 50.
- Click OK to confirm the settings.
- Click OK again to close the Internet Options window.

| Internet Explorer 7 |
|
|
This version of Internet Explorer have a different default settings as compared to Internet Explorer 6. By default, it is set to 50 MB instead and does not have any slider bar for increase of decrease the cache size. Here below shows how to double confirm the settings.

- Start Internet Explorer if it is not started yet.
- Click on Tools button, and then click on Internet Options.
- Click on General tap if it is not shown, under Browsing history click on the Settings button.
- In the Temporary Internet Files and History Settings dialog box, you could check and change the value box next to Disk space to use (8 - 1024MB): to value 50.
- Click OK to confirm and close the dialog box.
- Click OK again to close the Internet Options dialog box.

| Mozilla Firefox 2 |
|
|
A famous browser to the IT world, by default it is configured to have only 50 MB of cache for internet browsing. You might need to double confirm the settings if you wish by following the instruction below.

- Start your Firefox if you haven't started it.
- Click on Tools from the menu and then click on Options….
- Go to Network tap and you could see the Cache section.
- Click inside the Value box under the Cache section to change to value to 50. (You could click on the Clear Now button to delete all previous temporary internet files saved from your browsing).
- Click OK to confirm your settings.
